Indie game developers given a boost with new group

Over the past couple of years, we’ve been blessed with some stunning indie games from Braid to World of Goo.

But not every great independently-produced game proves to be a success – which is why a new group aiming to give struggling developers a helping hand has been formed in Britain.

Indievision has been created by former programmer Robert Swan, who has worked for top development houses Kuju, Climax and Sony, and Richard Hill-Whittall, the founder of Icon Games. Read the full story »

Social gaming – is it the future for indie?

Were or are you still an avid player of Scrabulous, the word game application that took the social network, Facebook, by storm? If so, then you were one of thousands, nay hundreds of thousands, of people who were gripped by what was, in a sense, a rip-off of Scrabble.

Creating killer Facebook apps

One of the most prolific and talented game creators on Facebook is a chappy called Kevin Owocki who has been providing more than a few extra reasons to log on the site.

There’s something magical about the movies – it’s why we adore actors and directors and pay billions of pounds each year to watch their end results.
But just as much as we enjoy watching the blockbusters, we also find fun in making our own films.

World of Goo

Americans Ron Carmel and Kyle Gabler, known collectively as 2D Boy, are former EA designers. They’ve broken away from EA, set themselves up as an independent developer and they’ve created a new game called World of Goo. It’s a physics based puzzle/construction game in which you attach balls of goo to each other. The game is going down well on the PC and the Wii – a brilliant success story for an indie developer.
